Bernard Cathelin was born in Paris on May 1919, and after studying at the national school of Art Decoratif, he become a member of the school of Paris. Cathelin was famous for oil painting and lithograph with a subtle richness of texture and color. Utilizing thick palette knife applications and rich colors, Cathelin produced a sense of light and corporeal form in his paintings, not unlike the work of Nicholas de Staƫl. His favorite themes were bouquets, landscapes and portraits of women.
