Yolande Ardissone was born in Normandy in 1927 to an Italian father and a Russian mother. At the age of 17, she left for Paris to study at the Ecole des Arts Appliques and the Academie de la Grande Chaumiere. Two years later, she transferred to Ecole des Beaux-Arts and studied in the Atelier of Unterstellar.
Soon after completing her studies, Ardissone traveled extensively, visiting Italy, Spain, Algeria, Holland, Indonesia, Egypt, Haiti, China, Thailand, Russia and other countries. Although she has traveled around the globe, her primary influence has been Brittany, France. In 1953 she exhibited at the Salon d’Automne and has since then exhibited at numerous salons, including the Salon des artistes français. Ardissone was discovered by the art dealer Wally Findlay in 1957 and her first solo exhibition in the United States was at his gallery.
Ardissone’s vivid, Impressionistic style is strongly influenced by Gauguin, Renoir and Van Gogh and she has gained a considerable reputation for her work. Ardissone’s landscapes are owned by several museums and private collections, including the Ville de Paris, the Musée de l’Ile de France, the Musée de la Marine, l’Etat, etc. The Ville de Paris has awarded her the Médaille d’Argent.
