Our painting is a study for the artist’s Confidence of the same year, formerly in the collection of Greta Garbo and most recently sold at Christie’s NY, May 2013.
Claude Terrase was an accomplished composer, the brother-in-law of Pierre Bonnard, and a well-known figure in the Parisian avante-garde. Renoir painted an earlier portrait of Terrasse in 1895, (Dauberville, No 2355)
